Clicking the Access Control icon allows you to specify who can access this folder through the internet. Webby allows you to password-protect and IP-protect certain directories. To restrict access to a certain directory, enter that directory and click the "lock" icon at the top of the screen.
Choose one of the following access restriction types:
• No access restriction: allow all users to access files in this directory
• Password access restriction: only allow users from a specific group to access files in this directory. You can configure groups, usernames, and passwords by choosing "Manage users and groups"
• IP allow: (advanced) only allow certain IP addresses to access files in this directory
• IP deny: (advanced) prohibit certain IP addresses from accessing files in this directory
FrontPage users must use the Microsoft FrontPage Explorer in order to manage access restriction; Webby cannot manage access restriction for FrontPage users. You must have Javascript enabled in order to use this feature.
Webby manipulates .htaccess files. If you have manually edited .htaccess files in your directory, they will not be compatible with Webby, and must remove manually-edited .htaccess files before using Webby's access restriction system.
Password protection is the most common type of access restriction. Follow these steps in order to create a list of usernames and passwords which are allowed to access a certain directory:
1. Enter the directory you wish to restrict access to 2. Click the "lock" icon at the top of the screen 3. Choose "Manage users and groups" 4. Choose a name for your group of users, and create a group by that name 5. Add usernames and passwords to your group 6. Choose "Close", select "Only allow users from the following group", and choose the group name which you created earlier 7. Choose "OK". Your directory is now access restricted
You can add and remove users, and change passwords at any time by choosing "Manage users and groups" and editing the appropriate group.
